Ever since I posted on Facebook that I passed the CompTIA Security+ SY0-501 Exam, a lot of people have been asking me to share what I did and the resources I used.
The first thing I do when I’m studying for a certification exam is download the list of topics that will be covered. I use those topics as a guide on which to focus on and which ones not to spend too much time on.
You can get the official CompTIA Sec+ SY0-501 exam guide here.
After that, I usually get a hardcopy of the Official Study Guide, I use this for the definitions and terminologies.
I normally don’t read this one front to cover. I find it more effective when use it simultaneously with video lesson.
Aside from Professor Messer videos on Youtube, I used uCertify.
I love it because it’s so easy to use and navigate. You simply open a browser, type ucertify.com, login and immediately it will show you dashboard of all the available courses in your library.
Open a course and it will show you a list of all resources included.
The CompTIA Sec+ course contains 13 chapters including a 3D Game Simulation which I really like. All chapters total to 67 lessons. Aside from the lessons, each chapter contains exam objectives, exam essentials, glossary and exercises.
Using uCertify helped me significantly in passing the exam. It provided all the topics, technologies and processes that I encountered during the test.
These are the things I recommend for taking the SY0-501 exam.
