The Parable of the Weeds among Wheat

As Proverbs 3:13 put it, “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding”. I want to share with you my thoughts, reflections and wisdom take-aways from my bible studies so we can learn and grow together in God.

Matthew 13:24-30 The Parable of the Weeds among Wheat

24 He proposed another parable to them. “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. 26 When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. 27 The slaves of the householder came to him and said, “Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from? 28 He answered, “An enemy has done this.” His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ 29 He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. 30 Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First, collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”

Take-Away: Key Points of Wisdom From Each Verse

24-25 The man sowed good seed in his field but the enemy (evil) came when he was asleep and sowed weeds (sin). This passage shows that even a good man is not immune to the powers of evil. It attacks silently; unknowingly. Take watching Porn for example. It starts out as an unharmful habit that people do when they’re bored until they can’t quit. Dr. Victor Cline says that sex and pornography can be a more difficult addiction to break than cocaine.

26 The crops bore fruit and the weeds appeared as well. Sometimes, it is too late to do anything. You can be growing evil inside you that you are not even aware of. Yep, that person can be irritating and annoying but you gotta be careful how you react. What started off as a nuisance can often lead to hate crime. Or maybe a habit of making little white lies accumulated so much over the years that has now become inscapable.

28 An enemy has done this. A good man will know if something is done by an evil force. That is not from God. That’s why its important to seek God for everything. Keep getting into toxic relationships? What do you really know about love? Is it from all the Kdrama/romantic films you’ve been watching? How is it working for you so far? They say God is love. Maybe it’s a good idea to consult Him first. Ladies, ever been with a man that is not from God? You know what I’m talking about.

29-30 If you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. This explains why God can’t just eliminate evil in this world. Sin has become so ingrained in man.

Let’s Dig Deeper…

Did you know that wheat and weeds look alike when they begin to sprout up from the ground but as each matures, the characteristics in each begin to change. There are some types of weeds that look exactly like wheat and only an expert can distinguish which is which until they have reached maturity.

When the wheat has matured, it bows its head. While mature weeds stand tall. This makes the process of pulling the weeds out easier as they have become identifiable. The true wheat bows.

But before wheat is gathered into the barn, it must be threshed. And after harvesting wheat to obtain the grain, milling or pounding is needed to remove the husks. On threshing, the chaff breaks up, releasing the grains.

Jesus deliberately used the term wheat as a symbol for his true followers. Coincidence? I think not. But hey, at least we know what’s coming.

There are no accidents.

You were meant to read this just as I was meant to write it.

An amazing journey lies ahead of us.
